These are projects that will be funded from Mite Box Contributions and other offerings designated for Mission Projects. Projects will be paid as soon as funds are available in the order listed below:
1. Orphan Grain Train KS Division Phillipsburg -- $ 5,000
Orphan Grain Train is a relief organization that ships food, clothing and other relief supplies to countries around the world. The Orphan Grain Train efforts can also be seen nationally at disaster sites such as New Orleans and Greensburg. This project will pay for shipping expenses of relief supplies.
2. Guinea Lutheran Mission, Guinea, West Africa -- $ 5,500
The evangelism team in Guinea travels around to un-churched villages. The team uses videos to share the Gospel and to attract people to the message. This grant will purchase video equipment and Christian videos in the primary language, French, and in other local languages as available.
3. Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services, Watertown, WI -- $ 5,000
The Bible is one of the most important resources available to learn about God and to grow in faith. This grant will help Bethesda to develop a high quality Bible study curriculum for use by people with varying levels of developmental disabilities. The curriculum will also be available to pastors, teachers, and families who are looking for confirmation instruction resources for loved ones with developmental disabilities.
4. Christian Literature for China -- $ 4,500
China’s population, at about 1.3 billions, makes it the most populous nation on earth. The Christian Literature for China project is responsible for developing and distributing resources for pastors and lay leaders as they continue their training for leadership positions in the Chinese church. This grant will provide reference and devotional books, pamphlets, catechisms, Christian music and videos to supply national leaders with resources for continuing outreach and personal study while continuing their ministry.
5. God’s Little Saints Preschool - Redeemer, Atwood -- $ 1,000
The preschool is a mission outreach of Redeemer Lutheran in Atwood, KS. The preschool serves a multi-county area in western Kansas with no other early childhood learning opportunities other than HeadStart.
This grant money will fund tuition scholarships for families with financial difficulties who want to send their children to a Christ-centered preschool.
6. Team China, Macau -- $ 5,000
Macau is a tiny peninsula of southeast China and two small islands totaling less than 10 square miles with a population of 445,400 in the port city of Macau. Most of the workforce in employed in tourism and gambling, trade with China, or light industry. A church-planting team established the Concordia English Center, which uses English as a Second Language classes, small group Bible studies, and various fellowship activities to gather and evangelize residents of Macau and Mandarin speaking migrant workers. This grant money will support the Concordia English Center which offers the peace, grace, forgiveness and hope that is available through Jesus Christ.
7. University Lutheran Center, Wichita -- $ 5,000
The University Lutheran Center (ULC) at Wichita State University is an ongoing ministry which serves both American and International students and provides opportunities for Christian fellowship and Bible study. The university has a large contingent of students who come from Muslim or communist countries who need to hear the Gospel. This grant will be used to help maintain the center and to continue expanding the mission to reach the lost for Christ.
8.. English as a Second Language, Garden City -- $ 4,650
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes have opened doors in Liberal and students there have been asking about worship opportunities. This grant will provide software for starting ESL classes in Garden City in order to instruct the students and will allow the teachers for form relationships and provide opportunities to reach the students with the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
9. Faith Lutheran School, Derby -- $ 2,970
This grant will provide two half-price tuition scholarships for unchurched students who fall below the federal free lunch guidelines. The greater hope is to reach unchurched families with the message of Christ through the mission of the school.
10. Hispanic Ministry, Redeemer, Olathe, KS -- $ 1,380
Redeemer Lutheran has been serving the large Hispanic population in Olather for two years through VBS, English as a Second language classes, Bible studies, and a service of the Word. This grant will partially fund a part-time pastor for this Hispanic ministry.
GOD’S GRACIOUS GIFT FUND GRANTS
(These grants were funded through a special fund established by the Kansas District LWML to be used when money is available. God’s Gracious Gift Fund receives money through special gifts, memorials and other designed gifts throughout a biennium. Money received over and above this amount is distributed through grant proposals submitted and voted on by delegates during a LWML District Convention. These funds will be paid out directly to the chosen recipients after the convention in which they are approved.)
